The Best Job for a RomCom? A Journalist

By Jo Piazza  Posted Mar 21st 2010 01:00PM
Any devoted fan of romantic comedies knows that the most often represented profession among lady leads is the chick journalist. The job of reporter lends itself well to the rom-com genre. It's a flexible job description with a built in nosy editor to drive the action along, and the reporter can always profess to be chasing a story in the name of love. We caught Moviefone's special sneak peak screening of 'The Bounty Hunter' at the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City (where a lot of the movie was filmed) and must say Jennifer Aniston fills the role of girl reporter for the New York Daily News well. Of course, during my many years as a reporter for the daily tabloid, I can't remember chasing down a story in a mini skirt and four inch heels. But if I had Jen's legs, I probably would have.

In honor of journalism's place on the silver screen, let's take a look back at our favorite rom-com lady scribes.

By PopEater Staff  Posted Mar 21st 2010 09:45AM
Former 'View' panelist Star Jones had heart surgery Wednesday related to rarely-performed surgery she had three decades ago after developing a thoracic tumor, a rep confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE.

"On Wednesday, March 17th, a pre-planned cardiac surgery was performed on Star Jones," the statement read. "This recent surgery is a follow-up to the thoracic surgery she had 30 years ago. The procedure was successful and she is recovering well with her family. Star is grateful for everyone's thoughts and prayers."

In 2003, she underwent gastric bypass surgery and subsequently lost 160 lbs.

Tiger Woods Redemption Tour 2010. First Stop? The Masters

By Jo Piazza  Posted Mar 21st 2010 09:00AM
George Bush's old spin-master, former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer, has a new client for his media consultancy firm -- some little known fella named Tiger Woods. And Tiger's mission, should he choose to accept it, is sticking to Ari's script. But given the heat in his marital and professional kitchens, you can bet Woods is going to do exactly what Ari says if he wants to get back on top (in all aspects of his life).

Tiger's announcement that he will be returning to golf next month at the Masters tournament in Augusta, Georgia, contained the facts and just the facts. But given how much flab there can be in these celebrity press announcements, we decided to trim the fat and give it to you nice and lean.

Todd Bridges Knows Exactly What He's Talking About: Drugs, Sex and Money Blown

By Nicki Gostin  Posted Mar 20th 2010 03:14PM

Todd Bridges, aka Willis on 'Diff'rent Strokes,' has a memoir out, aptly titled 'Killing Willis.' Before you roll your eyes, this is definitely not the usual B-grade celebrity bio. It is a brutally honest account of his descent into drug addiction, the criminal cases that almost landed him in jail for life and his years spent as a drug dealer in South Central Los Angeles. 'Killing Willis' is a riveting read.

Do you feel you're lucky to be alive?
Definitely. A lot of people I was in rehab with are dead now. I can't really say why I made it. I really don't know. Maybe so I can be around to talk about why I'm here and maybe help people get closer to God.

A Chat With the Brains Behind the Jaw-Dropping 'Life'

By Mike Hess  Posted Mar 20th 2010 11:51AM

This weekend, your understanding of nature and the animals that coexist alongside us in this vast, wondrous world is about to be blown to bits, as the new series 'Life' is set to debut (two back-to-back episodes premiere starting at 8 pm on Sunday) on the Discovery Channel. Much like the past smash hit nature series 'Planet Earth,' 'Life' -- narrated by Oprah Winfrey -- scours the earth looking for the most compelling images and storylines that mother nature has to provide, shot almost entirely in vivid high-definition. PopEater was able to chat with the series' executive producer, Mike Gunton, about how the vast undertaking began nearly five years ago, how it all happened and which moments are the most compelling to him (Hint: One involves flies that blow up their heads with air and have eye-fights. Seriously.). Our chat (plus fly eye-fight video!) after the jump!
